Q. What is an internet merchant account?
A. It is just like a merchant account used when you buy something with a credit or debit card at a store only it is specifically for selling products and services over the internet.

Q. Why would I want an internet merchant account?
A. If you have a product or service you wish to sell on your website you need an internet merchant account.

Q. Are there any alternatives?
A. Yes, there are third party payment processors such as Paypal. Although we do support Paypal processing in our e-commerce shopping cart software, we recommend having your own merchant account. There are disadvantages to using third party payment processors. First, it doesn't look as professional to your customers. Second, it will probably cost your more in the long run because their transaction rates are higher. Lastly, it is troublesome to gain access to your money (there is a $500 per month withdrawal limit). With a merchant account your funds are deposited directly into your bank account.
